Launch of New Division of Public Health On Target (DOT) Team

Dr. Virginia Crowe and Ms. Sue Butts explain the importance of QI.

In building upon the 2007 North Carolina State Pilot Accreditation process initiated by the Division of Public Health (DPH) and the Division of Environmental Health, the NC CPHQ has launched another DPH On Target (DOT) team.  The DOT team, as well as members of the Public Health Management Team (PHMT), underwent a Quality Improvement (QI) workshop on October 13th - 15th.  The workshop featured nationally known QI experts Dr. Virginia Crowe and Ms. Sue Butts who have over 50 years of combined experience in implementation and training in quality improvement.

This DOT team’s overall goal is to improve the appropriateness, communication, timeliness, and efficiency of the budget revision process.  This project was selected from the list of potential projects identified from the 2007 State Pilot Accreditation recommendations and from other DPH QI planning recommendations.

The DOT team will pilot the process in the Chronic Disease and Injury Section, with the intent to spread what is learned to all DPH sections once the process is improved and standardized.  Jeff Engel, Dennis Harrington, and Ruth Petersen will serve as the senior sponsors for the team.  Representatives from the team will meet with the senior sponsors on a monthly basis to report their progress, key milestones and data collected.  Denise Pavletic and Greg Randolph will serve as coaches and facilitators for the team.
