Four local health departments (Beaufort, Buncombe, Craven, and Mecklenburg counties) recently completed the AHEC Quality Improvement 101 (QI 101) course, which is a 6-month action learning experience. In early April, teams volunteered to pilot test the AHEC QI 101 course in order to provide feedback on how the NC Center for Public Health Quality could adapt the course for public health professionals.
Prior to beginning the course, each team selected a specific area within their local health department to improve. In June, teams attended the first face-to-face workshop to learn QI methods and tools. Following the workshop, teams applied the QI methods and tools in their local setting while receiving coaching from QI 101 faculty. On November 3rd, teams attended the final face-to-face workshop to celebrate their successes and plan for sustaining their improvements going forward. Stay tuned! Over the coming months, each team and the results of their project will be featured on our website.
