Welcome to the NC Center for Public Health Quality

Education and Training

NC CPHQ aims to create an infrastructure to foster and support continuous QI (CQI) and learning among all public health professionals in North Carolina. One component of building a CQI infrastructure includes improving the capacity of the public health workforce to use quality improvement methods and tools. Below is a list of education and training programs currently offered.

Public Health Quality Improvement 101 Program

Learning, Experiencing, and Doing Quality Improvement” 

The PH QI 101 program is an interactive learning experience designed to help local health departments  improve the quality of the services they provide to their communities.  Participants use the Model for Improvement and Lean principles and tools to improve a specific area within their local agency, while receiving individualized coaching from experienced program faculty.

Division of Public Health QI 101 Program

 Learning, Experiencing, and Doing Quality Improvement”

The DPH QI 101 program is an interactive learning opportunity for Division of Public Health staff interested in improving their activities and quality of the services they provide while improving system processes.  Participants use the Model for Improvement and Lean principles and tools to apply what they are learning to specific agency projects, while receiving individualized coaching from experienced program faculty.

Quality Improvement Advisor Training Program

"Coaching Others to Successfully Implement QI."

The QIA program provides the opportunity for participants to receive additional instruction in QI methods and tools, while also receiving individualized faculty mentoring and hands-on experience coaching a team from the Public Health QI 101 program.

Cappie L. Stanley Public Health Quality Improvement Internship

Cappie L. StanleyIn honor of one of our most vital QI advocates and role models for QI in public health, the Center has established the Cappie L Stanley Public Health Quality Improvement Internship. The Cappie L. Stanley Internship, housed in the NC Public Health Foundation (NC PHF) and overseen by the Center for Public Health Quality (CPHQ), is designed to support the work of interns (graduate/ undergraduate public health students or public health professionals making a mid-career transition) working with CPHQ.  To support the internship, the NC PHF has established a trust fund.  For instructions on how to donate to the trust fund, please click read more.
